Stay Safe. Stay Smart. Stay Free.

🧠 Before You Go

  • Wear Neutral, Non-Identifying Clothing
    – Solid colors, no logos. Avoid anything flashy or politically branded.
  • Mask Up (for health + privacy)
    – Use N95 or KN95 for function, mirrored sunglasses, theatrical masks or hats to defeat facial recognition.
  • Leave Devices at Home
    – If you must bring a phone, put it in airplane mode or a Faraday bag. Use a burner if possible.
  • Write Down Emergency Numbers
    – Include a legal aid hotline, your support contact, and any medics.
  • Pack Light, Smart
    – Water, ID (if you’re comfortable), snacks, bandana, goggles, basic first aid.

🚨 On the Ground

🛡️ Watch for Agitators:

  • Agitators often push for violence or destruction to provoke police.
  • They may yell slogans that feel “off”, avoid group chants, or refuse de-escalation.
  • Look for individuals with tactical gear but no group affiliation—some may be undercover.
  • Provide a clear line of sight to any agitators for organizers and law enforcement by peacefully kneeling or sitting down.

👉 What to do:

  • Do not engage physically.
  • Alert a trusted marshal or link up with a peace team if present.
  • Record discreetly if safe to do so.
  • Report things that are out-of-place to event organizers or law enforcement. NoKings volunteers have received de-escalation training.

👮 Know Police Tactics

  • Kettling: Police may trap protesters into a small area.
Exit early if routes start closing.
    – Avoid marching into narrow zones.
  • Snatch Squads: Plainclothes or riot police grab key individuals.
  • Sound Weapons/Flashbangs: Protect ears; bring foam earplugs.
  • Surveillance Drones/Vans: Assume facial and license plate scanning is active.

🔒 Digital Safety

  • Use Signal, Session or RaveGoat Matrix for comms.
  • Disable biometrics (Face ID, fingerprints).
  • Avoid live-streaming faces, license plates, or organizing plans.
  • Encrypt your device. Use a strong passcode.

🧬 After the Protest

  • Scrub your metadata before uploading any photos.
  • Check in with your group. Share any info about strange encounters.
  • If you were arrested or witnessed misconduct, write it down immediately while it’s fresh.

💥 Final Tip

You are not alone. We are stronger when we move together.
Stick with your crew. Watch each other’s backs.
And remember: This is a marathon, not a sprint. Stay safe to keep showing up.
